Marc Benioff dumped off the Oracle OpenWorld agenda

Salesforce.com CEO Marc Benioff once proudly told me that he is the only person who has ever been able to fire Larry Ellison, Oracle's chief. Ellison had been on salesforce.com's board of directors until it became clear salesforce.com would compete increasingly with the software giant, so Benioff stripped Ellison of his seat at the top table.

But now it looks like Ellison is getting his own back, with Oracle announcing not long before Benioff was to deliver a keynote at Oracle OpenWorld that his speech has been canned.

It's not the first time Ellison has rained on Benioff's parade. That time Benioff did manage to get his own back, mind you.

"Oracle just cancelled my keynote tomorrow," Benioff said. "But the show must go on! Everyone is welcome to join me at Ame Restaurant tomorrow to hear about the social enterprise. Sorry Larry, the cloud can't be stopped."

Benioff vowed to deliver his talk at a restaurant instead - Ame Restaurant in the St. Regis Hotel, San Francisco at 10am PT - and to do a press Q&A after, at 12pm PT. Punters can tune in at www.salesforce.com/live.
