Swisscom AG (Swisscom) is a global provider of telecommunication services. The company offers various services and products related to mobile, fixed and Internet protocol (IP)-based voice and data communications. In addition, it offers analog and digital access services and also broadband services over existing subscriber lines. The operations of the company are classified into four segments, namely, Swisscom Switzerland, Fastweb, Other Operating Segments and Group Headquarters. Swisscom Switzerland is further sub divided into five operating segments, namely, Residential Customers, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, Corporate Business, Wholesale and Networks. The company is headquartered at Bern, Switzerland.
In April 2009, the company made a trial offering to its customers. Under the offering, the customers can avail high-speed access to the fiber-optic network. The bundled offerings allowed simultaneous use of up to three high-definition television channels (HDTV), Internet surfing with data transmission speeds of up to 50,000 Kbps (downstream) and 10,000 Kbps (upstream), and telephone services. Initially the offering was made available to customers in Zurich whose homes are connected to the fiber-optic network.
The company reported revenues of (Swiss Francs) CHF 12,198.00 million during the fiscal year ended December 2008, an increase of 10.00% over 2007. The operating profit of the company was CHF 2,640.00 million during the fiscal year 2008, an increase of 4.97% over 2007. The net profit of the company was CHF 1,756.00 million during the fiscal year 2008, a decrease of 15.09% from 2007.
