Addonics rolls out CipherChain - AES 256-bit hardware

CBR Staff Writer Published 28 July 2009

Addonics Technologies has rolled out CipherChain, an AES 256-bit hardware full disk encryption system for personal computers, servers, rack mounted systems, data storage and any computing equipment.

Addonics said that the new system can be installed into any system and operated under any Operating System. There is no software to run, no driver to install and no password to remember in operating the CipherChain. The user has to insert the correct Cipher key before powering on the system or the storage device.

In addition, the CipherChain works with any SATA I/II hard drive, SSD (Solid State Drive) or storage device with SATA interface. It provides a choice of mounting brackets to install the product into various systems.

Addonics claims that an AES 256-bit encryption is secure to protect the sensitive information. The boot sector, partition table and all the information in the drive are encrypted. The security level can be raised by daisy-chaining two or more CipherChains.

Reportedly, the new hard drive is encrypted and decrypted on the fly by the onboard crypto engine with no utilisation of any CPU resource.
