British Medical Journal launches health website

CBR Staff Writer Published 09 May 2006

The British Medical Journal has officially launched a website offering independent, jargon-free health advice. The journal claims BestTreatments.co.uk will help patients by providing health information based on the latest research evidence.

BestTreatments editor Cherill Hicks told E-health Insider, We have translated the information doctors use - a resource called Clinical Evidence - into a patient's version. So it contains the latest, evidence-based research, but in jargon-free terms. Ms Hicks also pointed out that the website is impartial.

The website provides information on over 120 different conditions, detailing symptoms, treatments, questions, and evidence based on medical research. Ms Hicks said the site's role is to help patients and doctors work together, rather than aid self-diagnosis and treatment.
