Appliances cater to top and low end
Up to 150 security gateways could be collapsed into a single top-end appliance delivered today by Check Point Software Technologies Ltd, which has also taken the wraps off an all-in-one $3,500security unit for small business.
The VSX-1 appliance is a new line for Check Point that is intended as a consolidation platform for enterprise security handling firewall, IPsec and SSL virtual private network (VPN), intrusion prevention, VoIP security and URL filtering on a single device.
It is a means of improving asset utilisation and conserving power, space and cooling Check Point said.
The appliance comes in three model variants according to a capacity that ranges from five to 150 security gateways, and a firewall or VPN throughput rated up to 27 Gbps. The VSX uses SecureXL security acceleration, supposedly enabling it to maintain maximum performance evenduring DoS attacks.
All the units in the range integrate fully into Check Point's management regime and can be centrally managed through Check Point SmartCenter or Provider-1 management consoles.
The company has also extended its UTM-1 Total Security appliance line with the addition of the small business UTM-1 130 unit.
This appliance will be good for between five and 75 users and which can aggregate firewall, virtual private network (VPN), intrusion prevention, anti-virus, anti-spyware, URL filtering, Web security and messaging security into a single desktop box. Each UTM-1 130 comes with security updates and support for up to 3 years.
