China to do more to promote legal software while pushing for more investment in the US
Chinese trade officials have indicated they are willing to talk to their US counterparts about improve intellectual property protection in the country, according to reports.
US officials are particularly worried about the use of illegal software and China is will to do more to promote legal software, Reuters reported.
China Commerce Minister Chen Deming said that while Beijing agreed to address these longstanding US complaints, the US has promised to address China's demands for greater exports of US high-technology products and more Chinese investment in the US.
The US government has also said it would look at further relaxing its control on exporting dual-use products to China, and strengthen cooperation on the civilian use of high-technology in the nuclear energy sector, Deming added.
2011 has been a rocky year for the US-China trade relationship, as the US initiated several trade complaints against China at the World Trade Organisation and duties were slapped on Chinese exports, which included solar cells and wind turbine towers.
