The upgrade brings Android KitKat in line with iOS offering.

Box has updated its Android app with its Notes tools, matching its functionality on iOS.

The cloud storage firm's upgrade means Android users can update to version 3.2 of the Box app to create, view and edit documents with Notes, just like they can on the web.

The update also includes additional features like expiration dates for shared links and an array of admin tools.

The latest iteration of Box Notes runs on Android KitKat (4.4), and brings the file-sharing firm's Android offering up to scratch with its iPad and iPhone apps, which got Notes capabilities in June.

Box Notes product manager, Jonathan Berger, wrote in a blog post: "Box Notes on Android features seamless integration into the native menus, allowing for all the basic editor features you'd expect: cut, copy, paste, bold, italic, underline, bullet list, numbered list, indent and outdent.

"The Box for Android update also comes with a ton of additional new features to enhance your productivity, including recently opened files, advanced settings for shared URLs and fine-grained admin controls."

The update also provides checklists and new language options, and mobile product manager Simon Tan said bringing the updates to Android was essential, with the OS running on 85% of all smartphones shipped in spring this year, according to Strategy Analytics.

Tan added: "There are even more features arriving with this Box for Android update, including the ability to delete comments on files and a new pull-to-refresh gesture in folders."

Users also get extra admin controls to select which third-party apps can access content stored with Box.
