The new Optane products are built to deliver both storage and memory solutions for the data centre.
Intel has revealed its new Optane SSD DC P4800X Series paired with its new memory drive technology to drive storage and memory architectures for the data centre.
The new Intel Optane product is delivered as a unique form of storage compared to traditional storage as it significantly increase scale per server and can speed up applications.
The Optane SSD DC P4800X, which can also be used as extended memory, expands the system memory pool to create bigger and more cost-effective memory to gain higher quality insights.
This also enables data centres to deliver more affordable memory pools by displacing a portion of DRAM or significantly increase the size of memory pools.
The solution works to integrate the drive into the memory subsystem and presents the SSD as DRAM to the OS and applications.
Also, the company’s Optane SSD DC P4800X Series is built to drive new solutions with innovative applications such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, faster trading and deeper insights into medical scans. This expands the reach of cloud computing solutions.
Intel’s Optane SSDs are built to offer performance at low queue depth, with the majority of applications delivered to generate storage workloads enabling CPUs are more active and utilised.
For the data centre, it allows users to perform more work with the same servers to improve TCO or expand capabilities. As the drive has been found to be responsive under any load, it is highly predictable and delivers a consistent ultra-fast service, according to Intel.
The new product release comes shortly after Intel’s recent announcement of its new cryptographic isolation technology for the data centre (Intel SGX), which is delivered to enable application developers to protect select code and data from disclosure or modification.
Intel’s Optane SSD DC P4800X Series and its SD DC P4800X with Memory Drive technology is now available for customers in an early ship program, with all additional capabilities and form factors expected to be added in the second half of 2017.
