Q2 net profit increases 32.2%, reaffirms FY09 forecast
Deutsche Telekom has reported net revenues of €16.2 billion in the second quarter of 2009, a increase of 7.4% compared to €15.1 billion in the same quarter of the prior year. In the first half of 2009, the revenue was €32.1 billion, an increase of 6.8% compared to €30.1 billion in the same period of fiscal 2008.
As a result of the consolidation of the Greek company OTE, revenue increased in the first half of the year by 6.8% compared with the prior-year period.
For the quarter, net profit was €521m, an increase of 32.2% compared to €394m in the same quarter of the prior year. For the first half of 2009, the company reported net loss of €603m compared to a net profit of €1.3 billion in the same period of the previous year.
In the second quarter of 2009, the company's mobile communication segment reported an operating profit of €1.6 billion compared to €1.4 billion in the same quarter of the previous year, resulting in an increase of 8.6%. For the quarter, the Broadband/Fixed Network segment reported operating profit of €760m, a decline of 7.2% compared to €819m in the same quarter of 2008.
For the second quarter of 2009, the systems solutions segment's operating profit was €27m compared to an operating loss of €65m in the same quarter of the prior year.
Rene Obermann, chairman of Deutsche Telekom, said: “We took resolute action at the right time in a difficult environment. The figures for the second quarter make us confident for the full year. Hence, we confirm our forecast for 2009.”
