SoCs chips will provide high level functionality for the audio visual system.
US chip maker Intel has signed an agreement with Panasonic to manufacture its system-on-chips (SoCs), which will be used in audio visual equipments.
It will be Panasonic’s next generation of SoC and chips will provide high performance packed with power and viewing experience.
Intel will be using its 14nm low-power manufacturing process which includes the usage of the second generation Tri-Gate transistors, allowing the SoCs to give higher level of performance at low power.
Panasonic SLSI Business Division director Yoshifumi Okamoto said: "We will deliver highly improved performance and power advantages with next-generation SoCs by leveraging Intel’s 14nm Tri-Gate process technology through our collaboration."
Intel is lagging behind its rivals in making chips for tablets and smartphones, and with this move the company is trying to improve its contract manufacturing business.
Intel Custom Foundry vice president and general manager Sunit Rikhi said: "We look forward to collaborating with the Panasonic SLSI Business Division."
"This agreement with Panasonic is an important step in the buildup of Intel’s foundry business."
