Details of the upcoming smart FiOS-G1100 gateway appear online.
Verizon may be preparing to launch a new home automation gateway from Internet of Things (IoT) firm Greenwave Systems for the connected home market.
Details of a new Fios-G1100 Gateway model appeared online on the Verizon FiOS website when a customer tried to upgrade his current router, according to a blog post by Dave Zatz.
"The unannounced Greenwave G1100 has popped up in one pal's online account as the FiOS Quantum Gateway. Based on its presentation, we assume the G1100 replaces Verizon's existing Actiontec hardware and handles both television and Internet duties," the blog post read.
Jarryd Gonzales, a press officer for Verizon, told CBR: "We have always said we planned to release a market-leading router that will provide a simple and intuitive customer experience. We're still on track to deliver that, but I have no more details for you at the moment."
The model is expected to support the 802.11ac wireless networking standard and include support for the Zigbee and Z-Wave wireless protocols.
It can also transfer data to devices connected to a home network at speeds of up to 1300 Mbps per second, while other features would include customizable firewall with Stateful Packet Inspection and content filtering tools.
The report follows revelations in March this year when the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) first shared details about the FiOS G1100.
