Ericsson to provide systems integration services to Telefonica

CBR Staff Writer Published 21 June 2009

To migrate Telefonica’s existing fixed and mobile systems into converged IP-based network

Ericsson has been selected by Telefonica O2 Germany (Telefonica) to provide an IMS core system and an IMS-based VoIP application server. The contract includes hardware deployment and software systems integration services.

Ericsson will also integrate in Telefonica's VoIP application server using IMS, enabling Telefonica to provide services such as IP Centrex, business trunking or presence functionality to all fixed and mobile users. This deployment is expected to migrate Telefonica’s existing fixed and mobile systems into a converged IP-based advanced network.

Andrea Folgueiras, CTO of Telefonica, said: With IMS, we can advance the conversion of our current systems into more cost-effective and higher performance multimedia networks that can make optimal use of ever-increasing bandwidths. We based our decision to have Ericsson as a partner for IMS on the good experience from our joint projects in Spain and other countries.

Ericsson claims that IMS offers the level of intelligence required in advanced networks to offer broadband multimedia services at any location, independent of the access network the users are connected to.
