It will ensure a more secure platform for developing next-generation IoT solutions.
Touch technology solution maker Atmel is joining forces with Intel to enhance security of Internet of Things based applications.
As part of collaboration, Atmel will support Intel’s Enhanced Privacy ID (EPID) technology on all of its Atmel SmartConnect wireless solutions to enhance secure cloud provisioning.
Intel EPID based technology allows secure identification and linking of devices while group membership can be determined without revealing the identity of the specific platform.
Atmel provides IoT solutions that combine Atmel, SMART MCUs along with its SmartConnect wireless technologies ranging from Wi-Fi, 802.15.4 and Bluetooth, and Atmel secure products.
The latest effort will enable developers to use Intel EPID identification standard in their solutions when using Atmel wireless solutions.
According to Atmel, security is an important factor for enabling seamless connection between the edge node to the cloud, and around a billion devices are expected to be IoT enabled devices anticipated by 2020.
Atmel wireless solutions vice president Kaivan Karimi said: "Implementing Intel EPID offers IoT designers a truly seamless edge-to-cloud Internet of Things platform with proven security options available with our broad Internet of Things portfolio.
"With this new technology, Atmel’s SmartConnect wireless and IoT solutions now support Intel EPID, a security technology that has been proven over the last 5 years."
