JasperSoft targets Oracle ERP users

Open source business intelligence firm JasperSoft has launched a new BI offering for Oracle ERP users which it has jointly developed with Noetix.

Called Jasper4Oracle E-Business Suite, the software blends JasperSoft's core BI Suite software with a set of Noetix reporting objects called NoetixViews that generates metadata about ERP data sources.

The software works by creating query subjects and items of Oracle E-Business Suite data from and predefining their relationships to automatically identify joins between dashboard-driven NoetixViews The views are then used by JasperSoft's BI tools for end-user analysis and reporting. The views detail how the Oracle applications are configures and also monitor transactions to and from them.

These simplified views transform data complexity into easily recognizable business views of data, allowing non-technical business users with intuitive and affordable web-based, ad hoc BI for simplified self-service reporting, said Jose Morales, vice president of business development for San Francisco-based JasperSoft.

Morales said that any changes or upgrades to the reports created against the NoetixViews using its software are also insulated and do not require any rework.

We protect reports from these database changes by automatically remapping the new or changed tables to the views to reflect these changes, thereby eliminating the need for expensive report maintenance and simplifying report migration.

Around 1,300 companies, including the likes of Motorola, Starbucks and Visa, use Noetix's software to access ERP data in a more meaningful way.

The company, which is headquartered in Redmond, Washington, also provides similar NoetixViews for Siebel CRM applications as well. Siebel is now part of Oracle.

JasperSoft's BI Suite, which has now garnered over 7,000 commercial customers, comprises of community-grown and acquired open source BI projects covering query and reporting, OLAP analysis and data integration. The company recently upgraded usability and scalability of the suite with Ajax technologies and extended platform support for Sun Microsystems' 64-bit Fire servers.

This is in fact Noetix's third integration with a BI vendor; and its second this year. In March it developed a dashboard Generator for Cognos BI that populates the Cognos Framework Manager model with NoetixViews that also map directly to Oracle's E-Business Suite. In 2006 it also struck a deal to integrate views inside Business Objects' Xcelsius software.
