Web-based interface for launching and managing JumpBoxes on Amazon EC2
JumpBox, a provider of services that amplify the usefulness of open source server software, has unveiled Open Source as a Service, with enhancements including the debut of a web-based interface for launching and managing JumpBoxes on Amazon's Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) cloud computing system.
The company said that the new service provides the ability to deploy any of the fifty-five JumpBoxes across computing environments including on-premise, cloud and hosting environments.
The new enhancements also include the introduction of Elastic Block Storage (EBS) boot capabilities for persisting data and the ability to lower hosting costs by taking advantage of Amazon Reserved Instances and Spot Instances, the company said.
In addition, deployment to VMware ESX, ESXi and Oracle's VirtualBox has been made easier with the availability of OVF files for Pro account holders.

The service allows companies coping with strained IT budgets to reduce both opex and capex burdens by deferring hardware purchases and eliminating much of the overhead required to run these apps.
