"Over the past year, we've been working closely with more than 75k developers to make this possible for our members, by helping developers leverage LinkedIn's rich technology to build unique and innovative tools for professionals across the Web," the company said in a statement.
LinkedIn's upgraded share API will make it easier for developers and users to publicise and share professional content.
Developers will also now be able to request email addresses and permission from users who want to use their LinkedIn credentials to register for applications.
"Over the past few months, we've also been collaborating with a few select developer partners to launch the new functionality and features of the LinkedIn Developer Platform, including: WordPress.com, Business Insider, Livefyre, Behance, Janrain and Economist, Evernote, and Flipboard," said the company.
The site's updated API will also offer developers attribution on the update stream when users share their content on the network. The content will then link back to the developer's site.
"We're excited to see what our developer community has in store and we look forward to the many creative ways our members will be able to leverage their LinkedIn identity and network from wherever they work," said LinkedIn.
LinkedIn reported an impressive second quarter with the company up nearly 89% in revenues. The company reported revenue earnings at $228.2m compared to $121m during the same period last year.
However, the company had a net loss of $1.7m since its second quarter last year. Its net income was $2.8m compared to $4.5m in the second quarter last year.
"Our ongoing investment in product innovation drove healthy engagement as measured by unique visiting members and member page views, and our three revenue streams all experienced significant growth," said LinkedIn about its second quarter performance.
