Internet security firm McAfee has revealed that it participated in the US Department of Homeland Security's Cyber Storm Exercise.
Cyber Storm was the federal government's first full scale test to assess its readiness and ability to respond to what it deemed 'a cyber incident of national significance.'
The exercise simulated a sophisticated cyber attack in which the attacks were carried out in a closed environment to simulate realism for the participants. The cyber attacks were targeted at disrupting the energy and transportation infrastructure, as well as attacking federal, state and international systems.
Participants in the exercise included federal and state agencies, as well as private sector companies across a range of IT, telecommunications, energy and transportation sectors. The outcome of the test was not revealed.
