Includes virus removal and PC tune-up services
McAfee has unveiled new Total Care services suite, which it claims to provide a secure way for consumers to get help from experts to fix their computer problems remotely. It includes virus removal and the PC tune-up service.
The company said that the virus removal service detects and eliminates viruses, trojans, spyware and other malware from the PC. It also applies security updates to the operating system and includes a pop-up blocker configuration to reduce re-infections. The service is provided from a users home remotely through an internet connection.
According to McAfee, the PC Tune-Up Service is a cleaning, updating and configuration service that returns a computer’s performance to its highest potential. It will delete temporary files, remove unnecessary start-up items and unwanted processes and defragment disks and will also fine-tune the PC with additional tools and updates.
In addition, the company plans to add new PC set-up and security service in 2010, to help consumers set-up and secure new computers. Technicians guide users through setting up the monitor, keyboard, internet connection and e-mail. They can also remotely install and customise McAfee internet security software, and remove trial software and unwanted programs to free up memory and make the PC run faster.
Todd Gebhart, executive vice president and general manager for consumer, mobile and small business at McAfee, said: “Most people don’t have time to take their PC to in-store experts, wait in line, and then be without it for a few days or more. Now consumers can get secure help when they need it, without leaving their house.
“The McAfee Total Care services give people assurance that no matter when, or how, they need computer help, a security expert will be available 24/7 to fix the problem. McAfee will continue to expand services in 2010 so that consumers can live safe, convenient and confident digital lives.”
