Mediaservices criticizes Visa and MasterCard's Allofmp3.com move

Published:20-October-2006

Mediaservices, the company that owns Russian mp3 downloads website Allofmp3.com, has hit back at Visa and MasterCard's recent move to suspend their services for the site, claiming that the card firms have wrongly disqualified a legal online music service.

Mediaservices said in a statement that the disqualification was "based on preconceived notions about the company" and that Visa and MasterCard "lack justification for the action."

"Visa and MasterCard should immediately re-qualify AllofMP3," said director general Vadim Mamotin. "There is no valid reason and absolutely no legal basis for the action."

Mediaservices claims that the card processing firms have misinterpreted new copyright laws and incorrectly believe that the website is operating illegally.

The company said that it sees the action taken by the world's largest payment processors as "arbitrary, capricious and discriminatory" as Visa and MasterCard "lack the authority to adjudicate the legality of Allofmp3's activities."

Mediaservices also said that Allofmp3 will explore all means, including legal action, to reverse Visa and MasterCard's decision.
