Offers cloud-based desktop provisioning and security
Microsoft’s long awaited hosted desktop management service will be turned on by the end of June, the company has confirmed.
System Center Online Desktop Manager, which provides desktop management capabilities in the form of an online service, will be available to a private group of testers within 60 days and made available for public beta testing by the end of 2009.
Announcing plans for its desktop security and management tool, the company said it comprises a web-based subscription service that will monitor, troubleshoot, update and configure desktops.
The service could be used as a channel for software updates, configuration and asset management and remote assistance, Microsoft has explained.
Online Desktop Manager is reported as being based on same underlying technology as Windows Update, and eventually will tie into Active Directory-based ID management procedures.
