Microsoft Sites grab 11.5% US search share in February, says comScore

Facebook search queries up 10% to 436 million

Americans conducted 14.5 billion core searches in February 2010, with Google Sites accounting for 65.5% search market share, up from 65.4% in January. Microsoft Sites grabbed 11.5% market share, up 0.2 percentage points versus January, according to a report from research firm comScore.

Yahoo! Sites accounted 16.8% of the US core search market in February, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points compared to 17% in January 2010. Ask Network reported a decrease of 0.1 percentage points to 3.7% from 3.8% in January, while AOL Network share of searches remained flat.

In February 2010, Google Sites led the search market with 9.5 billion search queries, followed by Yahoo! Sites with 2.4 billion queries and Microsoft Sites with 1.7 billion searches. Searches on Bing Sites decreased 3% to 1.5 billion from 1.55 billion in January 2010.

According to the report, Ask.com search queries decreased by 11% to 300 million in February from 336 million in January, 2010. AOL search network queries were 358 million, a decrease of 5% compared to 375 million.

Social networking site Facebook has reported a largest growth during the month with a 10% increase to 436 million searches compared to 395 million searches. MySpace sites decreased by 3% to 388 million, Amazon sites dropped 12% to 210 million while eBay declined 5% to 624 million.
