Apple is probing claims by a labour rights group about poor working conditions at Jabil Circuit's facility in Wuxi in eastern China.
According to New York-based China Labour Watch, a series of ethical and legal labour violations were found at the facility including mandatory overtime of over 100 hours per month, with millions of dollars in unpaid overtime wages.
Employees at the facility, which builds a low-cost version of the iPhone in China for domestic consumers, were 'asked to stand and work for about 11 hours' with only one break of half an hour, while pre-employment training was also poor.
The labour rights group also alleged that the company showed favouritism against hiring applicants who were more than 35 years old or pregnant.
CLW report said that many of the violations raised also contradict the codes of conduct of both Apple and Jabil Circuit.
"Despite half a decade of outside investigations and self-reporting on myriad labour abuse throughout its Chinese supply chain, Apple has continually failed to compel supplier factories to conform to Apple's code of conduct and local labor laws before giving these suppliers Apple production orders," the report added.
The instance of the report seems to be awkward for the iPhone maker, which is planning to launch its new iPhones at events in California and Beijing during next week.
Apple said in a statement: "An audit completed earlier this year did find that some employees had worked more than six consecutive days without a day of rest, and Jabil has been working with our team to better manage overtime."
