US firm Apple has won about $1.051bn in a patent suit, claimed to be one of the biggest patent cases in decades, against South Korean company Samsung.
The nine-member US jury panel, which had observed infringement claims and counter-claims by both the parties, revealed that Samsung infringed six of seven patents for mobile devices.
Six infringed Apple patents include three related to the shape of the iPhone and on-screen icons and on the other hand the jury also ruled that Apple has not violated any of the five patents Samsung has claimed.
Samsung said that the verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for the American consumer.
"It will lead to fewer choices, less innovation, and potentially higher prices," Samsung said.
According to the jury, the verdict is expected to completely affect the patents on a various Samsung products which include its Galaxy smartphones and Galaxy 10 tablet, further may lead to ban sales of Samsung products in the US.
This judgment is also expected to affect Google's Android products, as Samsung claimed that HTC has also infringed its patents, with suits pending in US courts and an International Trade Commission.
Samsung revealed that it will file post-verdict motions to knock over the decision, and it will also appeal following the unsuccessful filing.
Following the lawsuit, Samsung's shares fell about 7.7%, claimed to be the highest decline since 24 October 2008 to 1,177,000 against 1,187,000.
Originally, the dispute had begun in 2011, when Apple prosecuted Samsung in multiple countries, condemning the South Korean company of copying the iPhone and iPad, while Samsung had countersued Apple's prosecution.
Apple had initially demanded more than $2.5bn in damages from Samsung for the infringement.
Apple relies on Samsung for the deliveries of microprocessors and other parts central to the company's communication devices.
