The watch is expected to launch in June.

Google is developing a new Android-powered smartwatch with LG Electronics, adding a high-profile gadget to Google's collection, according to reports.

Confirming the report that LG will develop a version of the Google smartwatch, the source added that the project may even involve other manufacturers.

The smart watch, which is expected to launched at Google's I/O conference in June 2014, will not only be compatible with its own devices, but also with other mobile devices from other firms, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The search engine will adopt a Nexus-like model involving its designed software and manage every phase of the launch.

After entering the global smartphone race, Google would straight away face major competition from Pebble and Samsung, among other challengers, in addition to Apple's rumoured iWatch.

The global smartwatch market is anticipated to grow this year, with about five million units to be shipped this year, according to a report from research firm Canalys.
