What could be a warning bell for Apple, the total number of Android tablets is expected to overtake iOS based tablets for the first time this year.
Despite Android devices surpassing iOS based tablet base, Apple will continue remain the leading OEM brand in 2014, according a report from ABI Research.
Samsung will continue to close the gap with Apple and both of them will command 70% of the total shipment of branded tablets by the end of this year.
ABI Research senior practice director Jeff Orr said looking back over the past three years of the tablet boom, the leading vendor order has remained largely unchanged.
"Lenovo is the most obvious standout as it has executed tablet strategy well both in China and abroad," Orr added.
During the first quarter of 2014, most of the tablet manufacturers experienced 30% decline in shipment which could change during later this year with expected resumption of growth.
According to the analysts, China and India combined will account for more than 35% of 2014 shipments in the Asia-Pacific region.
Orr added, "Tablet hardware sales from branded OEMs are likely to top US$85 billion this year."
"We have yet to reach the top of the tablet market and with many world regions just now starting to adopt, the best is yet to come."
Intel targets to sell its chipsets to about 40 million tablet devices which and expecting most of the chips will be sold to smaller manufacturers in China and Taiwan developing next-generation Android tablets during the second half of the year.
Other chipmakers like MediaTek, Qualcomm, Samsung, and others are also targeting to supply chipsets to tablets to be sold in the Asia-Pacific region.
