Facebook has launched a Snapchat-like photo-sharing app called Slingshot but with a unique feature added to it.

The photos shared through Slingshot can be opened only if the receiver sends back their own photo to the sender.

Facebook says this ensures better involvement of the users.

The Facebook page for the app reads, "With Slingshot, we wanted to build something where everybody is a creator and nobody is just a spectator.

"When everyone participates, there's less pressure, more creativity and even the little things in life can turn into awesome shared experiences."

The app was accidentally released a week ago on Apple's app store. It is currently available in the US for iOS and Android.

The users have options of sending the photos in bulk to all the contacts in their list. Just like Snapchat, here, too, the photos can be deleted permanently.

The app developed in-house by Facebook's Creative Labs division, comes after the company reportedly made a vain bid to buy Snapchat for $3bn. Facebook bought photo-sharing platform Instagram last year.
