New site to include information about 7000 Federal IT investments
The US Federal Government has launched new online tool that will track the government’s information technology spending.
Vivek Kundra, chief information officer for the federal government, announced the launch of an IT Dashboard at the Personal Democracy Forum conference in New York.
The new IT Dashboard is a part of the website setup USASpending.gov, for monitoring the government spending. It provides people with an online window to look into the details of the investments made by federal government on information technology. It also allows the users to track the progress of investments over time.
The new website includes general information about more than 7000 Federal IT investments and more detailed data for nearly 800 of the 'major' investments, according to the Personal Democracy Forum’s website.
The chief information officers of the individual government agencies will be responsible for evaluating and updating select data on a monthly basis through interfaces provided on the website.
Since the site is in beta, it might reportedly contain bugs, dead ends and major gaps that need to be addressed.
