Novell prepares real-time SUSE Linux

The fruits of Novell Inc's development agreement with real-time systems specialist Concurrent Computer Corp will be released in October in the form of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real-Time, according to reports.
The Waltham, Massachusetts-based Linux and identity-management software vendor teamed up with Deluth, Georgia-based Concurrent in January to produce Concurrent real-time extensions to the SUSE Linux operating system.
The functionality designed to enable SUSE Linux to be used in real-time applications, such as trading floor applications in the financial services market, and is also set to be targeted at telecommunications and government systems.
According to reports, the product will now be known as SLERT and will debuted at the Gartner Symposium on October 9 with Siemens Medical Solutions as an early customer using SLERT in its MRI scanning systems.
Both companies will also provide services and technical support for the solution, while Novell will also sell Concurrent's NightStar development toolset for debugging distributed real-time applications.
NightStar is already available for Concurrent's own RedHawk Linux distribution, which is based on Novell rival Red Hat Inc's operating system.
