New version not to sync with iTunes
Palm has released an update to its webOS platform with new features and enhancements, which also addresses several security issues.
The company has beefed up Palm Synergy to include LinkedIn contact syncing and also enabled information from LinkedIn profiles to appear in Palm Pre contacts.
The new webOS 1.2, which facilitates links across different IM contacts, gives calendar and mobile messaging a boost and also provides the ability to filter emails in the folder. The browser now supports downloading files from a web page and users can also back up browser bookmarks to the Palm profile. Web pages and emails are now cut-and paste-able.
Palm did not specify when its paid apps will hit the stores, but they can be expected very soon as the new version allows users to enter a credit card number on the App catalog for eCommerce. Users can also download songs from the Amazon MP3 store over a phone network connection apart from Wi-Fi.
However, the new version of webOS does not provide the ability for Pre to sync with the iTunes, showing signs of an end to long running feud between Palm and Apple.
The webOS 1.2 is expected to be pushed on to the users automatically with an over the air update. Users are expected to receive a notification for the update in next few days.
