SAP LOSES ITS US CHIEF EXECUTIVE TO INTERNET APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT START-UP BUSINESS@WEB

by CBR Staff Writer| 16 February 1996

High-flying SAP AG has installed its executive vice-president of worldwide marketing, Paul Wahl, as chief executive of SAP America Inc, Wayne, Pennsylvania. This was following the departure of president and chief executive Klaus Besier who left to run Business@Web Inc, a high-profile, two-year-old Internet application development start-up spun out by John Donovan's influential Cambridge Technology Group Inc (CI No 2,842). The company will provide SAP America with business products for the Internet, Besier told the New York Times, adding that SAP America is exploring an equity investment in Business@Web. Donovan hopes to take the Internet company public soon. Subscribers may remember Wahl as former director of the Open Software Foundation's European operations. Former SAP America chief financial officer Kevin McKay becomes chief operating officer, executive vice-president Jeremy Coote becomes president. SAP America's 1995 turnover totaled $710m.
