ScanSoft buys MedRemote for $6.2m

CBR Staff Writer Published 16 May 2005

Speech and imaging technology firm ScanSoft has acquired MedRemote, a developer of medical informatics and transcription workflow services, for $6.2m.

Chicago, Illinois-based MedRemote provides web-based transcription processing and workflow systems that leverage speech recognition and integrate with existing healthcare information systems. ScanSoft plans to integrate the firm's organization and expand its development, sales and marketing resources to target the healthcare industry.

ScanSoft is also introducing its Dragon MT Workflow System, a transcription processing system for hospitals and medical transcription service organizations, and its Dragon MT Remote, a hosted subscription-based program. Both products are developed with the company's Dragon speech recognition technology, which automates the conversion of recorded dictation into electronic transcripts, and are built upon MedRemote's platform.

MedRemote brings to ScanSoft an array of products, technologies and partners that expand ScanSoft's leadership in healthcare, a set of customers that have proven the value of the MedRemote solution, and employees that are skilled in developing and delivering speech-enabled healthcare solutions, said Paul Ricci, CEO at ScanSoft.

Combined with ScanSoft Dragon NaturallySpeaking Medical, we gain an enviable solution set that automates the way healthcare organizations capture and process their transcription data.
