SmarterTools to provide anti-spam software with its mail server software

To enhance the mail server’s 'out-of-the-box' anti-spam functionality

SmarterTools has entered into an agreement with Commtouch to provide Commtouch Anti-Spam with its SmarterMail mail server software. With the release of SmarterMail 6.x, Commtouch Anti-Spam will be available as an optional add-on for those users who want to enhance the mail server’s ‘out-of-the-box’ anti-spam functionality.

Although, the SmarterTools said that, the SmarterMail 6.x will continue to provide up to 97% spam protection ‘out of the box’, the additional functionality of the Commtouch add-on is expected to provide customers with nearly 100% spam protection.

According to SmarterTools, the SmarterMail features a webmail interface, collaboration, reporting, throttling, on-board anti-spam/antivirus, synchronisation with Microsoft Outlook, BlackBerry, iPhone, and windows mobile devices, and an event-driven architecture that provides automated actions and notifications.

Tim Uzzanti, CEO of SmarterTools, said: “Commtouch is a great fit as a spam protection partner because its technology is complementary to SmarterMail’s existing techniques and the company has worked with us to create a licensing model that will make sense for our hosting and business customers.”

The Commtouch add-on is said to be sold in licensing levels that correspond with the SmarterMail product levels and its pricing will be based on a yearly subscription.
