Other two Torrentz European sites to work as usual
One of the top torrent search engines Torrentz.eu has been taken offline by its registrar following a request from the UK police.
The UK Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit made the request as part of its crackdown on illegal file sharing sites.
Torrentz will, however, continue with its two other sites based in Switzerland and Montenegro. It is also planning to move the .eu domain to a new registrar, reported TorrentFreak website.
The UK Police unit has been working with copyright holders to identify and close file-sharing sites that violate copyrights.
A list of several sites was sent to domain name registrars with a request to take them down. One of such prominent sites is the cyberlocker search engine FileCrop, reported TorrentFreak.
Various countries are cracking whip on illegal downloads. Australia is contemplating to send warnings to internet users who download illegal content repeatedly, in addition to bringing down file-sharing sites.
The UK, too, is considering a similar move of sending letters to users downloading pirated content, and updating its copyright legislation.
Torrentz's peers isoHunt and The Pirate Bay are already blocked in several countries.
In October last year, a UK court ordered blockage of 21 sites, including 1337x, Monova, and Rapidlibrary, that carry copyright infringing material.
