Adapts Sender IP filters and GRID reputation network

E-mail reputation management routines will be built in to all the latest boxes from Sonicwall Inc, in an attempt to choke off incoming spam before it even enters a network.

The company said it would be loading the new ES8300 unit and all of its other e-mail security appliances with its Advanced Reputation Management (ARM) e-mail protection programmes, as part of a firmware upgrade to version Email Security 7.1. 

The company rates the new ES8300 as twice as fast, with twice the memory and ten times the disk storage as previous Sonicwall e-mail security platforms.

ARM uses the Sender IP reputation engine and the Sonicwall GRID Network to reject up to 80% of e-mail threats at the connection level, the vendor claimed. 

The system is built on a model of filters which allow its appliances to look at the reputation of the incoming mail sever and throttle the traffic according to past behaviour. The more spam-like a mail server appears, the slower the connection.

GRID Network drives real-time reputation analysis of the text, URLs, images, attachments and structure attributes of an e-mail, and is supported by a network with over four million endpoints, hundreds of millions of messages and billions of reputation votes, the company said.
