HP's new deal will let you integrate all your IT assets

Computer company's fortunes are looking up after a few hard months.

HP has teamed up with French firm Schneider Electric to resolve the communication breakdown between data centres and other IT assets.

As part of the deal Schneider's data centre software StuxureWare will be integrated with HP's Universal Configuration Management Database, allowing IT managers to keep tabs on hosting, web servers, cloud, virtual infrastructure and other business services from a single interface.

Soeren Jensen, vice president of enterprise software at Schneider, said: "Today's data centre managers are increasingly challenged by enduring silos between IT and facilities that lead to a breakdown in communication, making it difficult to take the first steps towards streamlined operations, improved efficiency and reduced costs."

The company's so-called "Single Instance of Truth" will let IT managers monitor performance of their various assets, including factors such as power and cooling which give greater insight into the costs of running services.

Rick Einhorn, vice president of worldwide data centre consulting at HP, said communication between assets would make "for more holistic and integrated management".

The company has made several important announcements at its Discover conference in Las Vegas, yesterday unveiling a device the size of a fridge that can replace the hardware of an entire data centre.

This follows a difficult few months, with the firm having to cut between 11,000 and 16,000 jobs as part of its five-year restructuring plan and pay a $108m bribery settlement for breach of the US Foreign Corrupt Policies Act.
