Sony has announced the launch dates of its new gaming consoles PlayStation 4 at the ongoing Gamescom expo in Cologne, Germany.
The new device will be made available on 15 November this year in the US and Canada for $399, while it is scheduled to be launched in Europe and Latin American countries from 29 November.
Sony Computer Entertainment America president and CEO Jack Tretton was quoted as saying by USA TODAY that the company is pleased to have some of the final pieces of the puzzle coming together for consumers to make their decisions.
"We are very excited excited about the fact that we have 180 games in development and that there will be over 30 of them available on shelves before the end of the holiday season," Tretton said.
"Smartphones and tablets have to be given their recognition. But we absolutely think there is a place in the market for a dedicated portable device."
PlayStation 4 will have 15 disc-based titles, while the company plans to launch 33 games including digital downloads the end of the year.
Sony has also announced the price reduction of both its PlayStation 3 console and PlayStation Vita handheld devices, while the 12GB model of the PlayStation 3 will be available for $199.
