Nutanix aims at data centres with latest Dell deal

Servers will come with web-scale technology built-in.

Nutanix has collaborated with Dell for integrating its web-scale technology with the server maker products to ramp up deployment of infrastructure appliances in the enterprise.

The original equipment manufacturing (OEM) deal involves building Dell XC Series of web-scale converged appliances that come with Nutanix's software built in and run on Dell PowerEdge servers.

"In Dell, we chose a company that shares our vision of disrupting traditional datacenter infrastructures with intelligent software running on x86 hardware to power all datacenter services," Pandey added.

Targetted uses include virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), virtualized business applications and multi-hypervisor environments. VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V and open source KVM are supported. Nutanix's software is able to span multiple hypervisors within the same background.

The Dell XC Series appliances will ship in Q4.
