The mobile portion of the policy server (PCRF), DPI, and web/video optimisation market is expected to grow to $1.4bn by the end of this year and it will further grow to reach $2bn by end 2013, according to a report by ABI Research.
Out of the total market, more than 70% of it include standalone DPI and policy server related which is expected grow at a compound annual growth rate CAGR of 33% between 2012-17.
During the period, the overall mobile monitoring and optimisation market is expected to reach $8bn, with DPI, policy, and web/video optimisation market taken up 73% of the total market, from the current 50% market share.
According to the report, network monitoring market will remain important, the value will shift towards monetizing the traffic, making policy and DPI much more interlinked compared what is today, and it will be a critical part of mobile infrastructure spending.
ABI Research mobile networks practice director Aditya Kaul said while policy, DPI, and optimisation have traditionally had separate ecosystem vendors, there are some indications that these functionalities might get integrated.
"Although there is an ongoing debate within the industry about the pros and cons of this integration, the interworking and cooperation of these three functions is necessary to deliver smart mobile traffic monitoring, optimization, and monetization solutions," Kaul said.
The report has been prepared by tracking six-monthly market update including UE client optimisation, radio test, radio probes, routing/transport optimisation, DPI (deep packet inspection), web and video optimisation, and policy servers.
