Vodafone launches Pay As You Go 4G service

Includes 30 days of unlimited data for brand new customers.

Vodafone has announced the launch of its first Pay As You Go (PAYG) 4G network as it continues to expand its network across the UK.

The news comes a year after Vodafone first launched its 4G network, which has since attracted over a million pay monthly subscribers and is available in over 300 towns and cities across the UK.

In order to attract new customers, the operator is also introducing "Find Your Feet", which gives users unlimited data for the first 30 days after buying one of its "Freedom Freebee" with 4G.

The Freebees start at £20 for 500 minutes, unlimited texts and 2GB of data, with a £30 or £40 Red Freedom Freebee providing unlimited calls, unlimited texts and 4GB or 6GB of data respectively.

Vodafone PAYG mobile broadband customers will also be able to access the new network, with prices starting from £15 for 2GB data.

"Over the past year we've already signed up well over a million Pay monthly customers to our 4G service and are now opening up this great opportunity to our Pay as you go customers," said Cindy Rose, Consumer Director, Vodafone UK.

"We're also offering the best value 4G smartphone available today, and with great value Freedom Freebees to go with it, now is the time to take 4G to Pay as you go."

A recent customer survey by RootMetrics found that Vodafone's 4G network trailed its rivals in terms of performance and speed, with EE taking the top spot.

This is despite the company investing £1bn in improving its services this year as it looks to reach 98% of the UK population by the end of 2014.
