Vodafone Pay As You Go (PAYG) customers holidaying in Europe this summer will be able to use their device to call, text and surf the Internet without running up huge costs thanks to a new price plan from the company.
From next month, PAYG users can use EuroTraveller on Pay to use their existing UK price plan of voice minutes, texts along with 100MB of data, for a special offer price of just £2 a day whilst in selected European countries.
The new price plan will launch on July 21 and last until August 31, and will cover much of the EU, including popular holiday destinations such as France, Italy, Greece and Spain.
Existing PAYG customers can opt-in for no extra charge and will only pay for the days they use their mobile abroad. They can continue to use their chosen Vodafone Freebee pack or Extras just like they do at home and will not be charged to receive calls and texts.
Users approaching the 100MB data limit will receive a free text alert letting them know how much they have spent, and will also be covered by the operator's data spending cap, meaning that once they hit the monthly £41.29 limit they will not be able to use their mobile internet overseas unless they send a text or call Vodafone customer services on 191 from their mobile.
The new plan is the latest in a series of announcements from Vodafone that look to cut the cost of using a mobile device abroad. Last month, the company said it was cutting the cost of a European call falling from 24.5p to 18.7p and text messages dropping from 8.1p to 5.8p.
Earlier this year, the company also announced it would be looking to expand its 4G roaming network to 18 countries across the world by the end of this summer as part of a £7bn investment plan.
Mobile roaming is a major source of revenue for many operators, with recent research estimating that it brought in $57bn in 2013. However following EU regulations passed earlier this year, roaming charges will be phased out by December 2015 as the organisation looks to make technology use easier for consumers across the continent.
