Gorkana Group, a provider of media intelligence, says its Oracle database performs 65% faster after swapping its NetApp-based storage for Nimble.
The London-based company had been relying on a NetApp MetroCluster storage system for several years, according to Mark Just, head of IT Operations for Gorkana.
"We had reached the point where we either had to increase capacity in our existing environment or switch to a different solution altogether. We decided to look for a storage solution that was easier to maintain, more scalable to keep up with the growth needs of our business, and also more cost effective," he explained.
He looked at HP, Dell, Whiptail and other all-flash providers before settling with Nimble Storage's arrays.
"Cost was a big factor for us, but maintainability and supportability of the product were bigger concerns. We wanted a product that could not only scale out, but easily scale up as well."
Gorkana implemented two Nimble CS440 arrays for its Oracle database, two Nimble CS420 for its file systems, and a Nimble CS220 for other services.
"They said they needed 12 weeks, but I told them they only had five," said Just. "And they did it!"
"The really amazing thing about this new storage is the sheer scalability of it, and the fact that response times barely moved when pushed hard. The maximum we saw was 1.5ms, which is astounding when you consider the Oracle Database load we were inducing at that point," said Just.
The switch has also enabled Gorkana to reduce IT operational costs by three and a half times.
