Google has announced a new tool to add to its portfolio at the Google Ideas Summit in New York.
This is an extension to help people from countries where access to the Internet is limited or behind a strict firewall.
However, the tool is not exactly ready yet. Furthermore, Google doesn't want to speculate about when users will be able to use it yet, saying instead they want to try it out through a few trusted testers in order to improve it and build up its security.
"The reason it is closed source at the moment, the reason we're not open sourcing it right now, is exactly that we don't want people to start using it before, actually, it's safe and secure," said Google Ideas' lead engineer.
uProxy is set to work as a browser extension for Chrome and Firefox, two of the most used browsers in the world, and it will work as a personalised VPN.
