Intuit begins mobile POS pilot programme in UK

Financial software provider Intuit has launched its new mobile point of sale (POS) pilot programme in the UK that facilitates small organisations to accept card payments anywhere.

Being tested by several small businesses in the UK, the new Intuit Pay comprises a free mobile app and low-cost chip and PIN card reader that attaches to any smartphone and allows payments through them.

Intuit global business division products vice president Terry Hicks said the new application facilitates many small businesses, accepting card payments in a simple manner.

"With Intuit Pay you can sign up and begin accepting card payments within minutes," Hicks said

"Our mobile app and card reader lets you securely take payments anywhere using your own smartphone or tablet."

Organisations involved in the pilot programme are allowed to use Intuit Pay to accept credit or debit card payments in two ways including in person or from home or office.

Service users are allowed to accept credit cards through a smartphone or tablet, while the credit and debit card payments can also be processed instantly online via a computer.

Intuit Payment Solutions division vice president and general manager Chris Hylen said: "The payments opportunity for small businesses in the U.K. is significant, and this pilot is our first step to enabling small businesses around the world get paid -- faster and easier."

According to a survey for Intuit of 1,000 small organisations in the UK revealed that about 19% micro-businesses currently accept card payments, while about 475 were willing to sdo so if if there was a more affordable through their smartphone or tablet.
