HP teams up with VMware to simplify software defined data centres

The HP Helion OpenStack will now support VMware virtualisation technologies.

VMware has expanded its partnership with HP that will see both companies integrate their hardware and software to help customers modernise their data centres at reduced costs.

Announced at the firm's VMworld 2014 event, the partnership means customers can avail of both the standalone HHP-VMware networking solution, which will also be delivered as part of HP Converged Systems.

The firms also announced that the HP Helion OpenStack will now support enterprise-class VMware virtualisation technologies.

Together, these announcements are expected to simplify the adoption of the software-defined data centre and hybrid cloud, allowing customers to deliver applications more efficiently at reduced costs.

Raghu Raghuram, VP of SDDC Division at VMware, said: "Customers will be able to combine HP Helion OpenStack with VMware's enterprise-class infrastructure including VMware vSphere and VMware NSX to achieve production-grade OpenStack deployments.

"Our integrated network virtualisation and SDN solution will help customers achieve a completely new operational model for networking that enables data center operators to achieve orders of magnitude better agility and improved economics."

Bill Hilf, SVP of Cloud Products and Services at HP, added: "Enterprise customers have given clear and strong direction that they need solutions to enable them to build hybrid cloud environments that leverage their existing investments and provide choice and flexibility in the future."
