TELECOM ITALIA CLAIMS 20,000 "SUPER-CORDLESS" CUSTOMERS

CBR Staff Writer Published 09 February 1998

Telecom Italia says it has welcomed 20,000 paying clients for its super-cordless DECT-based residential service Fido, in the first month of its commercial availability. Product manager Massimo Sarmi said it is too early to conclude anything about the profitability of the service or even its fautless operation, but said it is so far meeting business objectives. Fido is available in 28 cities, for which Telecom has invested 900bn lira. By the end of June, Telecom expects to provide Fido in 15 new cities, and will provide fixed telephony clients new services, such as caller ID.
