Dayton, Ohio-based Teradata has unveiled an upgrade of its Manufacturing Logical Data Model 3.0, a product which it says can define the relationships between different types of data and provide a roadmap for building an enterprise data warehouse.
The upgrade has been developed for vertical manufacturing segments, including the automotive, consumer packaged goods, high-tech, industrial and pharmaceutical industries.
According to Dan Odette, vice president of Teradata's manufacturing industry solutions, the product "builds upon our comprehensive supply chain, customer management and financial management data-organization capability, allowing customers to support three new key areas - track and trace, test measurements and logistics data from across the enterprise."
The Teradata Manufacturing Logical Data Model (MLDM) acts as a blueprint for the process of building and implementing an enterprise data warehouse. The company says this latest upgrade enables manufacturers to track and analyze uniquely identified items through the manufacturing life cycle.
Manufacturers can also use the software to track electronic product code-tagged units to better support radio frequency identification (RFID) efforts.
The upgrade is expected in the third quarter of 2005.
