T-Mobile unveils new version of NaviGate navigation service

Offers upgraded map display with choice of 2D or 3D view

T-Mobile has launched a new version of online navigation service NaviGate 3.0, which updates data, such as map information. It will also be integrated into new location-based services (LBS) in the web n walk portal.

According to T-Mobile, the NaviGate 3.0 turns T-Mobile customer phone with a GPS receiver into an online navigation system that offers up-to-the-minute information and flexibility, in addition to all the functions of previous versions such as automatic rerouting and transmission of GPS location data to the ADAC emergency road services whenever the user calls for help.

To transmit data continuously on request to the phone through mobile connections, the central navigation service updates the TMCpro (traffic message channel) traffic situation data for NaviGate 3.0 every five minutes, legal speed limit alerts every week and map, search and find data four times a year. NaviGate 3.0 also offers an upgraded map display with a choice of 2-D or 3-D view and English as a language option, the company claims.

The company said that the revised pedestrian navigation system provides more detailed route information, clear directions and an improved map view.

The integration of NaviGate 3.0 into the new location-based services (LBS) in the web’n’walk portal will allow users of both services to be guided to any destination with the same ease that they discovered with LBS and web’n’walk. Data transmission for ongoing navigation and information access is already included, the company said.

The NaviGate 3.0 is available for usage in Germany at EUR4.95 per month for a three-month term contract and EUR9.95 for a one-month contract.
