The microblogging site announced on Wednesday that users were experiencing issues with viewing Instagram photos on Twitter. While photos can still be seen on the site they appear in a cropped view.
"This is due to Instagram disabling its Twitter cards integration, and as a result, photos are being displayed using a pre-cards experience," explained Twitter in a statement. "So, when users click on Tweets with an Instagram link, photos appear cropped."
The change by Instagram has added to the ongoing tension between the two companies.
Twitter, which tried to buy Instagram before Facebook, revealed last month it would be offering photo services which would compete with Instagram's.
Twitter told the New York Times that it would soon be offering users the option to add filters to their uploaded photos.
Instagram CEO, Kevin Systrom, addressed the sudden decision to cut support for Twitter cards at Le Web Paris 12'.
"We will always be integrated with Twitter in a way that you can tweet out from Instagram to Twitter," said Systrom.
However, Systrom believes that cutting Twitter support is "the correct thing for our business to do at this time."
The CEO assured that the change had nothing to do with the company becoming a part of Facebook, saying it isn't "a consequence of us getting acquired." He believes the change will simply create a better user experience.
Sources say Twitter will make its photo filter feature available in the next few months. When released, Twitter's photo filter will be competing against Instagram's service and Facebook's recently released app, 'Camera.'
