Huawei Technologies became the first smartphone maker to team up with Chinese instant messaging service WeChat store to sell its latest Honor 6 smartphone.
JD.com, China's second largest e-commerce company integrated its virtual store with Tencent owned WeChat in late May.
The integration followed a deal, which was finalised back in March when Tencent, the creator of WeChat announced a deal to buy 5% stake in JD.com.
Huawei used WeChat to promote their latest smartphone, and now it is using the JD-WeChat store as the main channel for the launch and sale of its new product.
WeChat has already added an electronic payment feature to its app, making it easy for customers to make purchases using the messaging app. This will redefine the use of WeChat, as so far consumers viewed it as a popular messaging app and not a virtual store.
By teaming up with WeChat; Huawei is expected to take advantage of the 400 million monthly active users of WeChat.
