Virtual Instruments unveils VirtualWisdom 2.0

CBR Staff Writer Published 23 June 2010

Adds SAN I/O intelligence to VMware environments

Virtual Instruments, a provider of storage area network (SAN) and virtual infrastructure optimisation offerings, has unveiled VirtualWisdom 2.0, which provides the ability to monitor, measure and analyse the effect of the SAN on virtualised applications to increase overall application performance and reduce over-provisioning.

The company claims that the VirtualWisdom 2.0 adds SAN I/O intelligence to VMware environments, enabling administrators to balance the deployment of virtual machines based on real-time measurements of I/O performance.

According to Virtual Instruments, the new offering includes instrumentation, measurement and analysis tools; customisable widget-based dashboards that enable different user types to access infrastructure health information; and user-definable correlations that enable 'What-if' analysis based on real production data.

In addition, it includes ProbeVM feature that helps VMware admins to improve application performance and resolve problems by monitoring I/O from the virtualised servers through the SAN to the LUN(s) within storage arrays.

According to Virtual Instruments, the new offering provides real-time and historical insights into application latency and bandwidth consumption, as well as early detection and advanced notification of device failures, congestion and errors.

John Thompson, chief executive officer of Virtual Instruments, said: "Ensuring application performance and availability SLAs in high-growth, multi-vendor environments, especially those involving private clouds, presents a tremendous challenge.

"VirtualWisdom 2.0 provides unparalleled visibility into virtualised environments, enabling IT managers to optimise performance and utilisation, while reducing the risk of business critical application outages."
